Lagos APC Crisis Deepens as Tinubu’s Daughter Threatens Protest Over Primaries

President Bola Tinubu’s daughter and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has threatened to lead a protest over what she described as alleged manipulation of the recently concluded Lagos APC primaries, escalating tensions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Tinubu-Ojo raised the alarm during the weekly meeting of market leaders and stakeholders at her office in Alausa, Ikeja, where she accused some party leaders of influencing the outcome of the primaries in favour of candidates linked to the Justice Forum, one of the dominant political blocs within the Lagos APC.

The dispute centres on the results announced for Mushin Federal Constituency II, Agege Constituency II and Ojokoro, which Tinubu-Ojo insisted did not reflect the actual votes cast during the exercise.

The controversy follows the release of the official list of successful candidates by the Lagos APC, signed by the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, after the conduct of the House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the party, 24 candidates emerged for the House of Representatives tickets, while 40 candidates secured nominations for the Lagos State House of Assembly across the state’s constituencies.

Among those listed as winners were Mojisola Meranda for Apapa I, Musibau Lawal for Apapa II, Barakat Bakare-Odunuga for Surulere I and Damilola Ayinde-Marshall for Surulere II.

However, Tinubu-Ojo rejected some of the declared outcomes, insisting that candidates such as Seye Oladejo, Mutiu Olaide Oladeebo, and Olotu Ojo were the rightful winners of their respective contests.

She warned that if the disputed results are ratified without proper investigation, aggrieved stakeholders may be left with no option but to protest.

“We are ready to protest because of Seye Oladejo of Mushin Federal Constituency 02, Mutiu Olaide Oladeebo of Agege 2 constituency, and Olotu Ojo of Ojokoro constituency because we know they won this election. Their mandate should not be given to somebody else,” she said.

Tinubu-Ojo called on both the state and national leadership of the APC to intervene immediately and review the disputed outcomes to prevent further division within the party.

She also decried the deepening rivalry between the Justice Forum and Mandate Group, describing the factional struggle as a major threat to party unity in Lagos.

According to her, the growing movement of party members towards the Justice Forum is tied to the perceived governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, whom she openly endorsed.

She urged the party leadership to dismantle factional structures and restore internal cohesion.

“We have to cry out now. Let APC cancel Justice and Mandate Forums. We are one family. We are for APC,” she said.

Tinubu-Ojo further reaffirmed the support of market women across Lagos for Obafemi Hamzat’s governorship ambition, stressing that traders remain a significant political force whose contributions should not be ignored.

The latest development has exposed fresh cracks within the Lagos APC, with political observers warning that unresolved grievances from the primaries could affect the party’s internal stability as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
