Lagos begins fresh registration for poor, vulnerable households

The Lagos State Government has initiated a new registration exercise to identify poor and vulnerable households previously excluded from its database, reinforcing its commitment to enhanced social protection and welfare delivery across the state.

The exercise, coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget under the supervision of Commissioner Mr. Ope George, was officially launched at Ajibola Community Development Area (CDA) in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Kosofe Local Government Area.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Oluwakemi Garbadeen-Adedeji, Director of the Social Protection Coordinating Department, representing the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, reiterated the government’s focus on reaching those most in need. She said:

“This registration is a key step in achieving our goal of targeted support for poor and vulnerable households. It will enable the government to identify and assist households that missed out in the earlier exercise.”

The initiative drew praise from the community. Alhaja Arikawe Adewale, Chairman of Ajibola CDA, expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the administration’s social protection programmes, describing them as “the dividends of democracy.”

He noted the strong community turnout as a reflection of residents’ confidence in the programme.

The registration forms part of Lagos State’s broader integration of the Lagos State Single Social Register (LASSR) with the National Identification Number (NIN), a process that commenced on April 9, 2025, across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

The LASSR, a subset of the National Social Register, is a comprehensive database of poor and vulnerable households in Lagos. It serves as a vital tool for identifying beneficiaries and delivering targeted interventions.

According to the Ministry, the current update will ensure all eligible households are captured, facilitating more effective and equitable distribution of government support to those who need it most.
