The Lagos State Government has announced that the Third Mainland Bridge will be totally closed to traffic for three days from Saturday January 30 to midnight Monday February 1, 2021.
A statement by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, said, “The closure was for the completion of repair works on the double-sized expansion joints without any interruptions that could be caused by vehicular movement on the bridge.”
He said the bridge repair work was being done assiduously to ensure that the set deadline for reopening the entire bridge to traffic was met.
He also disclosed that alternative routes had been identified for use by motorists to access their desired destinations with minimal discomfort.
He said, “Motorists from Ogudu, Alapere and Gbagada are advised to use Ikorodu Road, Jibowu and Yaba as alternative routes, while Iyana Oworosoki-bound traffic from the Lagos Island, Iddo, Oyingbo, Adekunle and Yaba should use Herbert Macaulay Way, Jibowu and Ikorodu road as alternative routes.”
The commissioner also affirmed that traffic officers would be deployed and stationed along the affected routes to minimise and address any traffic impediments during the closure.
He urged residents to cooperate with the Lagos State Government as one of its promises to the people of Lagos State was to ensure improved mobility through free flow of traffic on the roads.
