Lagos CBD dislodges vehicles, traders on Carter Bridge
Operatives of the Lagos Central Business Districts have dislodged vehicles and traders parked on the Carter Bridge.
The CBD said this was carried out in line with the vacation order issued by the Lagos State government to vehicle owners and traders parking on bridges across the state.
This is contained in a statement released on Tuesday by the CBD’s Public Relations Officer Olaoye Olusegun.
Reacting to the exercise, the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Mrs Bola Olumegbon Lawal, said the dislodgement would restore order on the roads and enhance the well-being of commuters doing business on the island.
She said, “CBD will not tolerate the practice of commercial drivers using the end of the Carter and Apongbon bridges as their loading bay for passengers and traders displaying their wares for sales.
“This not only affect the free flow of traffic for other vehicles trying to access the bridge to other parts of the state from the Island but endangers the structural stability of the bridge.
“CBD with other traffic managers and security agencies will intensify the restriction of parking and loading as well as trading on the bridge which has freed up the roads to other users within the axis.”
The Special Adviser warned other vehicle owners and traders to stop parking and trading on all the bridges across the Lagos Island business district, stressing that defaulters would have their vehicles or goods seized as well as face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the agency said it had intensified the clearing of illegal makeshift structures and iron kiosks erected on walkways and drainage alignments within the Island business district.
The clean up exercise which started last week was already yielding positive results as the business district had begun to experience a cleaner and serene environment.
