A few hours after rescue efforts commenced at the site of a collapsed high-rise building in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, four bodies were on Monday recovered and four other persons rescued alive from the rubble.
South-West Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, said, “Four people have been rescued, and four bodies have been recovered in the debris.”
The building, said to be under construction, had came down around 3.15pm with many people said to be trapped under the rubble.
Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, had earlier confirmed the building collapsed on Gerard Road, Ikoyi, adding that heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment were moved to the area for rescue operation.
He said, “The agency has activated its emergency response plan to the above incident. All first responders are en route to secure the scene while the heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched.”
