Lagos Court Sentences Provost to Three Years for Forging LASU Document
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has sentenced Samson Orijugo, provost of Adonai Advanced Institute of Management, to three years’ imprisonment for forgery involving a Lagos State University (LASU) document.
Delivering judgment, Justice Modupe Nico-Clay found Orijugo guilty of forging a LASU notification of result to falsely present his private institution as being affiliated with LASU. The court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, dismissing the defence as untenable.

The forged document was issued to a former student, John Chibuzor Okoro, after Orijugo allegedly misrepresented Adonai Institute as a LASU-affiliated school, a claim investigations later confirmed to be false. Evidence tendered before the court showed clearly that no affiliation existed between Adonai Institute and Lagos State University.
In her ruling, Justice Nico-Clay stressed that the case was strictly about forgery and deliberate deception, not the issuance of a degree certificate. She held that Orijugo knowingly presented the document as genuine with the intent to deceive the student and his family.
Orijugo was consequently convicted on two counts of forgery and sentenced to three years in prison, a judgment widely seen as a strong warning against academic fraud, fake university affiliations, and document forgery within Nigeria’s education sector.
