Lagos dispatch rider caught with child inside delivery box

A yet-to-be-identified dispatch rider in Lagos State has been apprehended with a baby found in his courier box.

The undated video sighted by The Nation has since gone viral.

The suspect was said to have been caught in the Sangotedo area of Lagos.

Checks conducted by The Nation showed that the Sangotedo axis, comprising Ajah, Abijo and Lekki environs, are some of the areas notorious for criminal activities in Lagos.

The incident occurred amid the outrage over the murder of a 22-year-old fashion designer, who went missing after boarding a BRT bus in the area last week.

In the video, the infant was removed from the box, while an enraged crowd was seen assaulting the dispatch rider.

One of the persons in the background was heard saying: “This is the child that was abducted.”

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said: “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video going viral on social media alleging that a yet-to-be-identified dispatch rider stole a child found and recovered in a dispatch box.

“The command wishes to inform the public that the incident said to have taken place in the Sangotedo area, Lekki, was not reported at any police station to enable the police to take appropriate actions.

“Notwithstanding that the incident was not reported, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, psc, has directed that efforts should be intensified to locate the whereabouts of the alleged dispatch rider and the parents or guardians of the child to enable the police to investigate the incident.”

BREAKING: Court acquits Ex-AGF Adoke

A former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, has been acquitted of money laundering charges by an Abuja Federal High Court.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, upheld Adoke’s “no case” submission against the money laundering charges.

In 2017, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Adoke and Abubakar Aliyu, a property developer, with laundering about N300 million.

While the EFCC acknowledged before Ekwo that it was a mortgage taken by Adoke from Unity Bank, it alleged before Justice Kutigi that the money constituted a bribe from the sale of an oil block by Malabu Oil & Gas Ltd in 2011.

BREAKING: Tension in Benue as riot police take over APC secretariat

Anti-riot Police forces have assumed control of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Secretariat led by Comrade Austin Agade in Makurdi, the capital of Benue state.

This marks the second instance within a month. It’s noteworthy that Makurdi hosts two separate APC secretariats, with Agada heading one and Benjamin Omakolo overseeing the other.

The Agada-led APC State Working Committee (SWC) had scheduled the inauguration of members of the zoning committee for the upcoming council elections at their Secretariat on Friday the 19th.
