Lagos, FCT CPs Among 13 Promoted to AIGs in Merit-Based Police Reshuffle
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), marking a major merit-based reshuffle aimed at strengthening leadership and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force. The officers earned the promotion after successfully completing written examinations and oral interviews at the PSC headquarters in Abuja.
A statement by the commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, confirmed that the list of promoted officers has been forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, for immediate implementation. The PSC described the elevation as a recognition of merit, dedication, and excellence in service, underscoring its commitment to transparent and fair promotion processes.
The newly promoted AIGs include prominent senior police officers such as Emmanuel Ado Christopher (CP, Yobe State), Joseph Eribo (CP, Ekiti State), Dantawaye Miller (CP, FCT), Uche Ifeanyi Henry, Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo (CP, Ogun State), Muhammad Dahiru (CP, Jigawa State), Dankombo Morris (CP, Adamawa State), Bello Shehu (CP, Katsina State), Ibrahim B. Maikaba (CP, Zamfara State), Ahmed Musa (CP, Sokoto State), Olohundare Moshood Jimoh (CP, Lagos State), Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, and Haruna Olufemi (CP, Oyo State).

In the same exercise, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to Commissioners of Police (CPs), and 19 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). Additionally, 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). The promotions span multiple states and departments, reflecting the PSC’s effort to enhance operational capacity and leadership effectiveness within the force.
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), commended the promoted officers, urging them to justify their new ranks through dedicated service, effective policing, and commitment to national security. “The promotion is not an end but an opportunity to contribute more to the noble task of safeguarding lives and property,” he stated. The commission emphasized that officers who fail the examinations are expected to re-sit, with retirement following after three unsuccessful attempts, in line with public service rules.
The promotions come amid ongoing security challenges across Nigeria, highlighting the importance of strengthening the police hierarchy with capable and experienced officers. The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, merit-based promotion processes in line with global best practices, aiming to ensure accountability, professionalism, and efficiency across the Nigeria Police Force.
