Lagos hoodlums set vehicle ablaze after driver kills pedestrian

A yet-to-be-identified pedestrian has been killed by a speeding driver in Lagos State.

The driver of a Toyota Vensa was said to have crashed into the pedestrian at full speed, killing the deceased instantly.

Following the incident, which happened along the Onipanu area last Saturday, mob set the vehicle ablaze.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

In a statement on Sunday, he stated that the impact of the collision was said to have led to the death of the pedestrian.

Oke-Osanyintolu said, “Upon arrival to the incident scene at 2048hrs, LASEMA’s Cobra Response Team observed that a Toyota Venza, with registration number, EKY 839 HU, oversped and hit a pedestrian at the aforementioned location.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the agency’s Response Team revealed that the driver of the above-mentioned Toyota Venza was at a top speed when he lost control and collided with a male pedestrian crossing the highway.

“The yet-to-be-identified adult male lost his life to the incident and had been taken off the scene before the arrival of the responders.”

The incident was said to have sparked tension, which prompted the LASEMA team to call for police backup.

It is , however, gathered that before the arrival of the police, the hoodlums set the vehicle ablaze.

“The agency’s Response Team informed officials of the Nigeria Police Force of the incident, and volatility of the scene due to activities of miscreants who escalated the incident, vandalised and set the accident vehicle ablaze,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
