NRC releases updated Lagos-Ibadan train schedule, adds more trains for Yuletide

For those planning to use the standard gauge Lagos-Ibadan train during the festive period, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has released the updated time schedule for the daily operations, adding more trains.

This is coming less than 24 hours after the Federal Government promised additional 16 trains to the Lagos-Ibadan rail daily operations.

The NRC says it has increased the number of trains on the route to cater for the expected upsurge in passengers during the festive period.

It said the increase in the number of daily trips on the Lagos-Ibadan train service was with effect from Monday (today).

The increase will run for three weeks, from 8am on December 20, 2021, to 4pm on January 9, 2022, according to Jerry Oche, Lagos district manager of NRC.

He told NAN on Sunday that the increase in train trips would decongest road traffic.

Details of the additional trains as contained on the latest train schedule for the route obtained by Newstrends on Monday indicate three trains will run on Monday Dec 20 to Wednesday Dec 22.

For Thursday December 23 and Friday 24, the train will run at 7am, 10.48am; 2.36pm and 6.24pm. On Christmas Day, December 25, it will be 8am and 4pm.

Three trips will on 26th to 29th are slated for 8am,12 noon and 4pm.

The schedule returns to four on 30th and 31st, at 7am, 10.48am; 2.36pm and 6.24pm.

It will be 8am, 12 noon and 4pm on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd January, 2022; 8am and 4pm; 8am, 12 noon and 4pm on the 8th and 9th January, 2022.

Oche urged passengers to board the trains with a maximum of 12kg luggage.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had on Saturday disclosed of plans to add 16 more trains to the Lagos-Ibadan rail line to increase revenue generation.

“Currently, we are running Lagos-Ibadan from the money we are making from Abuja-Kaduna rail service,” he had also said.
