Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has highlighted Ademola Lookman’s unique attacking qualities following the Nigerian forward’s impressive display in the club’s Copa del Rey victory over Real Betis.

Lookman made an instant impact on Thursday night, scoring once and providing an assist as Atlético thrashed Betis 5-0 to book a place in the semi-finals.

The Super Eagles star constantly troubled the opposition defence with his pace, close control and composure in the final third, earning praise from his coach after the match.

Speaking to Europa Press, Simeone said Lookman brings a different dimension to an attack that already includes the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Julián Álvarez.

“His traits are very clear. He is a different type of player from the others we have,” the Argentine tactician said. “He stands out more in one-on-one situations than in collective play, although he can also contribute to the team’s movement.”

Simeone noted that the forward’s versatility allows him to be deployed across multiple attacking roles, adding that the coaching staff are still learning how best to maximise his strengths.

“That gives us the possibility to use him in different positions. We are getting to know each other step by step, and today he helped the team in a very positive way,” he added.

The Atlético boss also expressed confidence that Lookman’s influence would grow as he settles further into the squad.

“The team felt his impact, and he looked comfortable. Hopefully, we can help him improve even more while he helps us grow as a team,” Simeone said.

Despite his standout performance, Lookman was substituted in the 79th minute, with Obed Vargas introduced as Atlético comfortably saw out the win.
