Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has said the state lost about N75bn to looters during the attacks by hoodlums on public and private property in the aftermath of #EndSARS protests in the state.
He stated this on Friday in Jos during an interactive session with some Plateau youths.
“The level of destruction and carnage is unbelievable and unacceptable. We are still trying to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the total cost of the damage. However, the preliminary report by a team of experts I constituted has estimated the losses at about 75 billion naira for now,” he said.
The governor said without any external help, the state government would not be able to replace looted items or rebuild the vandalised structures.
Lalong said, “Since coming into power, my administration has remained committed to pursuing the economic development of the state through youth empowerment and job creation.
“You would agree with me that the enormity of the challenges we face cannot be resolved overnight. It is a process that all of us must collectively work together to achieve.”
He advised the youth to guard jealously the property of the state and their respective communities.
