LASUSTECH shuts staff school indefinitely over student’s death

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has shut its staff school indefinitely over the death of a student.

The LASUSTECH International Secondary School (LISS) has been in the news since the death of the student identified as AbdulRahman Dauda.

Abdulrahman was said to have been chased into a moving car by a teacher.

In a statement on Friday, LASUSTECH said staff school had been shut “forthwith due to the unfortunate incident”.

It added that the “period of closure will be used to restructure and reposition the school”.

The statement further said the “students will be engaged with online learning” during the period.

Three workers of the staff school were earlier remanded in prison over alleged complicity in the death of the student.

The school had also vowed to ensure justice is served in the matter, adding that investigation had commenced.

“We want to state that the school and Nigerian Police commenced investigations immediately after the matter was reported. Subsequently, the case was taken to the court of competent jurisdiction, and appearances started on Monday, 31 October 2022,” the statement reads.

“The three affected members of staff who were allegedly accused of complicity in the unfortunate situation are currently remanded at the Nigerian Correctional facilities in Lagos.

“As the case is already before a competent court, we seek the public’s prayers and understanding with the school management and parents of the deceased at this moment of grief and sober reflection.”
