Lekki Muslim Ummah empowers aspiring tailors
The welfare and zakat committee of Lekki Muslim Ummah (LEMU) has donated sewing machines and other tailoring items to selected members of the Muslim community.
The donation took place at the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos.
The graduation which saw 20 participants was made possible by the donations from zakat proceeds from Muslim members of the community.
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam that orders a person to do charity and give a portion of wealth to the poor and needy.
Speaking at the event, Abdul Ganiy’ Sola Labinjo, LEMU president, said the graduation is not only the completion of a training program but the embodiment of one of the fundamental pillars of Islam – zakat.
Labinjo said the essence of zakat lies the idea that we are our brother’s keeper. It is a commitment to the welfare of the community, and today’s program stands as a testament to the beauty of Islam in action. Empowerment, a key plank of zakat, is at the heart of what we aim to achieve.”

“To the graduates who stand before us today, receiving not just skills but the tools to embark on a new chapter in life, know that this is an investment in our collective future. Our hope is that, in a few years, you will not only prosper individually but become contributors to zakat, ensuring the cycle of empowerment continues.”
The president implored the graduates to aim high and shouldn’t limit themselves.
“Believe that you can be as successful as anyone else. You have the potential to establish your brand and contribute to the prosperity of our community. This is the glory of Islam – seeing more Muslims excelling and thriving to the benefit of our faith,” he admonished.
