A 24-hour curfew has been declared in Borno State as the hunger protests across the nation got out of the control of the security operatives in the state.

Seven mass transit buses were burnt in Potiskum, the headquarters of Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State during the #EndBadGovernance protests.

Spokesman for the Borno Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, in a statement on Thursday, said the curfew was on the basis of security concern.

The police confirmed 16 people were killed in the explosion.
In his statement, the police image maker said the curfew was declared in the interest of peace.
Part of the statement read, “In view of the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security and law enforcement agencies toward preservation of law and order in the state. In Yobe, the state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns where some hoodlums took advantage of the protest to vandalise and loot government and private properties.

Spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident at Potiskum, saying the perpetrators would be apprehended and prosecuted.

Security agencies have been directed to ensure enforcement and full compliance with the curfew order.
