Lionel Messi becomes football’s all-time top assist provider with 405th assist
Lionel Messi has made history by becoming the player with the most career assists in football, recording his 405th assist during Inter Miami’s MLS Cup semifinal victory over New York City on Sunday.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner set up Mateo Silvetti in the 67th minute as Inter Miami cruised to a 5–1 win, securing the Eastern Conference title and a place in the MLS Cup final against Western Conference champions Vancouver on Saturday, December 6.

With the latest assist, Messi surpassed Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás, who previously held 404 career assists. This feat adds to his already legendary record, which includes 896 career goals and 405 assists, giving him the highest goal contributions in football history.
