Luis Suarez Signs One-Year Extension with Inter Miami Ahead of 2026 MLS Season
Inter Miami forward Luis Suarez has signed a one-year contract extension, securing his place at the Major League Soccer (MLS) club for the 2026 season.
Suarez, who will turn 39 next month, was instrumental in Miami’s historic MLS Cup triumph, scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists across 50 matches in all competitions in 2025. The club claimed its first-ever MLS Cup by defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps earlier this month.
The former Uruguay international joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2024 season, reuniting with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. Despite the retirements of Busquets and Alba following the MLS Cup win, Suarez confirmed his commitment to Miami, joining Messi, who signed a deal extending until 2028.

Suarez has had a turbulent time in MLS, receiving a nine-match suspension for spitting at a Seattle Sounders staff member after Miami’s League Cup final defeat in August. His career has previously seen high-profile controversies, including an eight-match ban by the English FA for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and multiple suspensions for biting incidents during his time at Ajax, Liverpool, and with the Uruguay national team.
In addition to retaining Suarez, Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, recently signed former Tottenham and Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon on a free transfer, bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.
