Man arrested for raping secondary school students at EBSU staff school
A 27-year-old man, Nzubechukwu Odo, from Obollo Etiti, Udenu LGA, Enugu State, has been arrested in Ebonyi State for allegedly raping female students of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Staff School.
Odo, who resides with his family on Igbokwe Street, Abakaliki, was apprehended over the weekend after sneaking into an uncompleted hostel within the school premises, where he raped an SS1 student.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect gained entry through the porous school fence and hid inside the abandoned hostel. The victim raised the alarm after struggling with him, leading to his capture by staff and students.

During interrogation, Odo confessed to raping the SS1 student and admitted to violating another student in the past.
The school principal, Mr. Fidelis Ozibo, described the incident as devastating, blaming it on the poor security and lack of facilities within the school. Students also lamented the absence of functional toilets, which forces them outside the premises, exposing them to danger.
The victim’s elder brother, Mr. Harrison Elom, confirmed she is receiving medical treatment and appealed to the government for justice.
It took the intervention of the Vice-Chancellor of EBSU, Professor Michael Awoke, to prevent mob action, as he directed security aides to hand over the suspect to law enforcement.
Confirming the arrest, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said Odo was apprehended on Friday, November 21, and is currently in custody undergoing interrogation. He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence, urging the public to protect the girl-child and report cases of rape.
