Man bags life imprisonment for raping 15-year-old girl in Ekiti
On Wednesday, an Ekiti State High Court in the Ado Ekiti Division convicted and sentenced Ojo Ayegbusi to life imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl.
The crime occurred on November 11, 2020, in Ikole Ekiti, where Ayegbusi was charged with the offence of rape.
According to the court charge, “The innocent survivor (victim) of the rape was coming from school when she was accosted by the defendant who lured her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her. She could not tell anybody of her nasty experience, but her father found out when the girl was rushed to hospital after she collapsed at home and blood was gushing out of her private parts.”

Following the discovery, Ayegbusi was arrested and subsequently arraigned in court.
The Director of Public Prosecutions in Ekiti State, Julius Ajibare, stated, “The offence of rape is contrary to Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.” Ajibare, who prosecuted the case, presented five witnesses and three exhibits to support the prosecution’s case.
In his defense, Ayegbusi, represented by his counsel E.O. Sunmonu, provided evidence and called one witness.
In his judgment, Justice John Adeyeye concluded that “the prosecution proved the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.” Consequently, the court convicted Ayegbusi and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
