Man City sack bar worker for wearing Man United shirt during derby
Manchester City have sacked a bar worker who was spotted serving fans at the Etihad Stadium during Sunday’s derby clash while wearing a Manchester United shirt.
The incident came to light after a frustrated City supporter posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter), showing the staff member behind the bar in a dark United away jersey from the 2018/19 season.
The image quickly went viral, sparking outrage among City fans who described it as “provocative” and “unacceptable,” especially on derby day.

The supporter tagged the club, calling it “an absolute joke” that bar staff in Block 315 were allowed to work in rival colours during such a high-stakes match.
The episode added a strange subplot to a miserable day for United, who slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.
After the game, manager Ruben Amorim admitted his philosophy is non-negotiable, saying the club would have to remove him if they wanted to abandon his preferred 3-4-3 formation.
