Man stabs friend to death over female lover in Ogun

A man identified simply as Okereke has allegedly stabbed his friend, Ibere Okorie, to death.

Okereke was said to have killed okorie during an argument over a female lover.

The suspect has since been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command over the incident which happened at Mokwa in Niger state.

It’s gathered that Okereke and Okorie had left for a business trip from Ijebu-Ode to Niger State when the incident occurred.

Okereke and Okorie decided to lodge at a hotel in Mokwa to relieve the stress of the journey when hell broke loose.

According to a police source, while the two friends were staying at the hotel, an argument ensued about a woman who was thought to be dating the two friends which led to a fight.

Okereke was said to have picked up a piece of a broken bottle during the physical confrontation, according to the police, and stuck it in Okerie’s stomach, leaving him with a serious injury.

According to the Punch, he the suspect fled the scene and ran back to Ijebu-Ode after realising his heinous act, while hotel workers rushed the victim to a private hospital in Mokwa.

When the family of the deceased victim received the news, the police source said they took him (the victim) to an undisclosed hospital in Lagos State for further medical care before he was said to have been taken to the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, where he was later pronounced dead on December 13, 2023.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, confirmed that the suspect had already been detained.

“The corpse has been deposited at the morgue. We have interrogated all the parties involved. The suspect is currently in detention, and the investigation is ongoing,” Odutola stated on Monday
