Many have been feared dead when a mining site collapsed in Anyiin, Logo local government area of Benue State on Tuesday.
Mining activities have been going on in the area for years but it could not be confirmed if they were licensed by the Federal Government or not.
A youth who was at the mining site told The Nation the incident occurred in a settlement called Duejime, near Anyiin when the deep gully suddenly collapsed.
“Two of the miners died at the spot while others sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in Anyiin,” he stated.
As of press time, only two bodies have been evacuated as plans are on to recover more trapped miners.
