There was commotion on Friday in Gombe as suspected thugs blocked Senator Danjuma Goje from entering the town, leading to many being injured and vehicles destroyed.
Goje was said to be in Gombe to attend a wedding and landed at the Gombe Airport in Lawanti, at about 10.40am.
It was learnt that the suspected thugs blocked the Gombe-Bauchi highway near the International Conference Centre and set bonfires on the road, denying entry into or out of Gombe.
Several vehicles caught in the confusion were also said to have been vandalised or burnt, just as scores of people reportedly sustained injuries.
Thousands of commuters were left stranded along the axis as no vehicle was allowed into or out of the state.
Security operatives were deployed to restore law and order, as youths carrying weapons were at both side of the divides.
This is coming as the relationship between Goje and his erstwhile godson, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, is said to have gone sour recently over the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Gombe Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Obed Mary Malum, could not be reached on the telephone for comments on the issue.
