Many travellers killed, others trapped in tanker fire on Lokoja-Abuja road
Many people have been reportedly burnt to death in a tanker fire accident along Lokoja-Abuja highway in Kogi State.
The accident was said to have happened on Sunday when a fuel tanker lost control and collided with some vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
Many people were reportedly trapped in the inferno as of the time of filing in this report Sunday afternoon.
Two commercial buses and some cars were said to be up in flames along with the fuel tanker in the accident.
Security personnel, including operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were seen making frantic efforts to put out the fire and rescue the passengers trapped in the inferno.
The situation resulted in gridlock on both sides of the busy Lokoja-Abuja highway.
The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Stephen Dawlung, said officials of the commission had been drafted to the area.
He also confirmed, “Many were trapped in the accident. The tanker is still burning, causing traffic challenge on the highways presently.”
