The Committee of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of federal tertiary hospitals has called for a clear policy on the emergency replacement of health workers without waiting for waivers.
In a communiqué issued after its 96th regular meeting and 10th annual general meeting Saturday in Abuja, the committee said the policy should be implemented by the chief executives of federal tertiary health Institutions.

The association in the communiqué which was read by its outgoing president, Dr Jaf Momoh, said the mass exodus of health workers from their hospitals has become worrisome.
The committee also said no effort should be spared to control the potential spread of the omicron COVID-19 variant in the country, adding that hospitals are well equipped to manage cases.
Islamic Group Offers Free Medical Services In Yobe
The Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Yobe chapter, has offered free medical services to over 800 patients in Fune LGA of the state.
Speaking at the end of the two-day outreach on Sunday in Ngelzarma, the IMAN vice chairman, Dr Mahmoud Ma’aji, noted that the exercise was conducted in various clinics in the area.
He listed the services to include consultations, the provision of drugs, psychological and psychosocial counselling, as well as various laboratory tests.

He said the aged, orphans, widows, pregnant women and under-five years children were given more attention during the outreach, which began on Saturday.
The vice chairman said the objective of the outreach was to assist the less privileged and to educate residents on the need to seek medical assistance in the hospital.
In his remarks, the Emir of Ngelzarma, Muhammad Mai-Yeri, called on philanthropists to support IMAN to enable it to carry out its activities effectively.(NAN)
Lassa fever: Death toll hits 171 as NCDC confirms 8 new infections
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has recorded eight additional Lassa fever infections and one death between September 5 and 11.
The NCDC via its official website said the new cases bring the number of confirmed cases and deaths to 917 and 171, respectively.
It disclosed that 25 states had recorded at least one confirmed case across 102 local government areas. According to NCDC, 6,660 suspected cases have been reported in the country.
The public health agency disclosed that of the new confirmed cases, Ondo accounted for 32 per cent, Edo 26 per cent and Bauchi 13 per cent.

“In week 36 (September 5 to 11, 2022); the number of new confirmed cases decreased from 10 in week 35, 2022 to 8 cases. These were reported from Ondo, Edo, Bauchi, and Anambra states. Cumulatively from week 1 to week 36, 2022, 171 deaths have been reported with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 18.6 people which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2021 (23.3 per cent). The predominant age group affected is 21-30 years (Range: 0 to 90 years, Median Age: 30 years). The male-to-female ratio for confirmed cases is 1:0.8. The number of suspected cases has increased compared to that reported for the same period in 2021. No new healthcare worker affected in the reporting week 36,” it said.
It said the National Lassa fever multi-partner, multi-sectoral Technical Working Group (TWG) has continued to coordinate the response activities at all levels.
Lady offers kidney to Ekweremadu’s daughter
A 24-year-old lady, Anastasia Michael, says she is ready to donate one of her kidneys to Sonia, daughter of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, currently down with kidney malfunctioning.
This is coming less than 24 hours after 25-year-old Sonia Ekweremadu made an appeal to members of the public to donate a kidney to save her life.
Responding through a Facebook post on Monday, Annastasia said she was willing to donate one of her kidneys to Ekweremadu if none of her family members could do that.
She added that she was doing so to prove that women could help women.
Annastasia said that the donation would be for free, hoping that her kidney matches that of Sonia.
She said she had sent her mail address to the email provided by Sonia.
