Controversial Enugu Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has announced the closure of the Adoration Ministry for a one-month period.
The announcement made on Tuesday, he said, was to enable him to proceed on prayer retreat and directed the church members to observe the period by praying and fasting at home according to their ability.
Rev Fr Mbaka has been embroiled in a cold war with President Muhammadu Buhari and the Catholic Church in Enugu, asking the former to resign over the spate of killing and other forms of insecurity in the country.
He also accused the Enugu Catholic Church of working with the President and detained him last week over his criticism of the Buhari administration.
Mbaka’s decision to close down the ministry, it was learnt, might be connected with the earlier order given to him by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Callistus Onaga.
Mbaka had on Sunday during a mass sermon at the Adoration Ministry, Emene, Enugu knelt down and begged for forgiveness for the unruly behaviours of his members.
The Adoration ministry sent out a notice early Tuesday informing members that Mbaka was proceeding on a one-month private prayer retreat.
But the statement did not say whether the closure of the ministry was in obedience to the Bishop’s directive.
A message frpm the church made available to newsmen in Enugu simply stated, “Our Spiritual Director, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, wishes to inform his beloved adorers that he has embarked on a private prayer retreat that will end on 10th June, 2021.
“Consequently, no ministry activities shall be held in the ministry ground pending his return.
“He directs that members of the ministry are to observe this period of his retreat as they used to do during the usual January breaks of the ministry, by praying at their homes, being charitable and fasting according to their ability. Adoration! Holy Spirit is our power.”
