Meet Nafisa Aminu, 17-year-old Nigerian student named world best in English

Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a 17-year-old Yobe State student, was named World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals, which took place in London, UK.

Nafisa, representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, outperformed over 20,000 participants from 69 nations, achieving a remarkable feat that has garnered global academic respect for both her state and country.

The TeenEagle competition is a globally known competition that evaluates English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication abilities in students from both English- and non-English-speaking countries.

Nafisa’s victory was verified in a statement by her family’s leader, Hassan Salifu, who credited her accomplishment to commitment, discipline, and the state government’s enabling support.

“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to our state and nation,” Salifu said, as quoted by Leadership.

He also remarked that Nafisa outperformed students from native English-speaking countries, which he believes demonstrates her intelligence and preparation.

Her achievement has ignited jubilation throughout Yobe and beyond, with her family thanking Governor Buni and the NTIC team for helping her reach her academic potential.

“Nafisa’s success is a testament to the power of educational investment. Governor Buni’s commitment has not only transformed schools in the state but also positioned Yobe and Nigeria on the global stage,” the family added.
