Three underage girls rescued from an Anambra brothel have narrated how they were forced into prostitution.
The girls who are all from Ebonyi State, said they were taken by one Ifeoma and Chika from their houses in Izza and brought to Awka with the promise of getting them a job.
They said the women who brought them to the brothel seized their phones and other belongings before handing them over to another woman called Ezenwannyi.
Ezenwannyi told them that they would only be released after paying her the sum of N150,000 or serve her for a period of one year.
On how much they made daily at the brothel, the girls said they were mandated to bring between N10,000 and N15,000 every night and N40,000 every Sunday whereas any man they slept with usually paid N1,000.
According to them, they were able to use a whistleblower’s phone to get across to their family and the whistleblower in turn notified the Women Affairs Ministry who with the help of the police.
The Anambra State Government in collaboration with the State Police Command rescued about 12 females including the three underage girls from the brothel in Awka.
The raid was carried out at Happiness Guest Inn in Amawbia, on Monday, June 19, 2023 after they were alerted by a whistleblower.
Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Commissioner, Ify Obinabo, said on Tuesday that the underage girls had been taken to a hospital for medical examination and possible treatment.
The case has since been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department Awka SCID.
