Michael Okpara varsity adjusts cut-off marks for 2022 admission

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Anambra, has applied to the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board to enable the university adjusts its cut-off marks for 2021/2022 admissions from 160 down to 140 points.

The Registrar of the University, Jacinta Ogwo-Agu, had in a press release said, “All candidates who chose Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike as their first choice and scored between 140 and 159 in the last JAMB examinations should register for PUTME screening in the MOUAU portal”.

She added, “Candidates who did not choose MOUAU but are interested in its courses can do a change of institution and also register for screening”.

All efforts through WhatsApp and text messages to get the Registrar to explain the reasons for the adjustment were ignored by her.

However, responding after a series of phone calls, she said she would forward the press release to the correspondent, adding that the reasons for the adjustment are contained in the release. As of the time of filing this report, Ogwo-Agu is yet to send the release.

However, the Vice-Chancellor, Maduebibisi Iwe told The PUNCH, “The University made a request from JAMB and until JAMB approves that, we will not grant any interview”.

Inside information revealed that all is not well with the university as more candidates now shun the school over courses of study.

Reducing cut-off marks, the source said, was a way of increasing student admission quota.
