Military closing in on bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, arrests his arms supplier

 

The Nigerian military says it is currently tracking notorious bandits’ kingpin, Bello Turji, and will soon eliminate him.

Already, one Hamza Surudubu, a suspected gunrunner and arms carrier supplying weapons to terrorists including Turji, has been arrested.

Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, spoke on Monday morning on the efforts of the military to end the terror activities of Turji and his group.

He spoke in an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, ‘The Morning Brief’.

According to Major General Onumajuru, the military is aware of Turji’s current location but says he will not discuss that further.

He said, “As I speak, Bello Turji is hiding, completely in hiding and the armed forces are tracking him. The Armed Forces continuously track him and very soon, he will be eliminated.”

He urged Nigerians to be patient with the Armed Forces, saying that tracking a bandit leadership could take time in some cases.

He however assured that it would not be too long before Turji is brought down to end his operation in the North-West of the country.

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to Sokoto State Governor on Security Matters, Col Ahmed Usman (retd), has confirmed the arrest of Turji’s arms supplier, Hamza Surudubu.

Usman said, “A 35-year-old suspected ammunition courier identified as Hamza Samaila Surudubu has been apprehended by Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, (SSCGC), Isa Division.

“The suspect was arrested today 20/02/2025 along Shinkafi Road. The suspect was arrested by SSCGC Isa Division and Civilian JTF.

“Preliminary investigation indicated that Hamza Samaila was enroute to deliver arms and ammunition to Turji, Boka and Halilu Buzu.”
