Military Inflicts Heavy Losses on Terrorists in Northeast Nigeria Base Assaults
The Nigerian military has successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on bases in Adamawa and Borno States, killing scores of insurgents and securing key military positions. The attacks, carried out by armed groups linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP, targeted a patrol base in Madagali, Adamawa, and a Forward Operating Base in Azir, Borno, but were met with a swift and deadly response from Nigerian troops.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, soldiers engaged the attackers with reinforcement support and air strikes, forcing the terrorists to retreat. In the process, troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosives, including mortars and heavy machine-gun rounds. Two military personnel sustained minor injuries, while the terrorists suffered significant casualties.

The attacks highlight the persistent security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, where insurgent groups have previously targeted military installations in an attempt to seize territory and disrupt counter-terrorism operations. Recent air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force have destroyed key insurgent hideouts and supply routes, weakening the operational capabilities of militant groups.
Military authorities emphasized that the latest victories demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to counter-terrorism and the protection of citizens, even as collaboration with international partners, including the United States, strengthens intelligence and military capabilities.
Security analysts warn that while the insurgency has been partially contained, the capacity of terrorist groups to launch coordinated assaults on military bases remains a threat, necessitating ongoing vigilance and proactive operations by the armed forces.
