Minimum wage: Labour rejects FG’s N57,000, demands N497,000, meeting adjourned May 28
No agreement was reached on Wednesday concerning a new minimum wage at a meeting involving the organised labour, the Federal Government and the private sector employers.
The organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, on Wednesday, rejected the Federal government’s fresh N57,000 minimum wage offer.
Sources at the NLC disclosed this on Wednesday as reported by Channels Television.
The report said that the organised labour also saw reasons to drop their demand to N497,000 minimum wage from N615,000.

On Tuesday, the Federal Government offered organized labour a minimum wage of N54,000. Last week, it offered a minimum wage of N48,000, which prompted Nigerian workers to stage a walkout.
In an interview on Tuesday with Channels TV, NLC President Joe Ajaero described the government offer as unsubstantial.
“It is still not substantial compared to what we need to make a family moving,” he said.
Recall that organized labour proposed a N615,000 minimum wage up from N30,000, citing the prevailing economic realities Nigerians were facing.
Meanwhile, the meeting for minimum wage negotiation was adjourned to next Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
The labour has given the government up until May 31, 2024 to conclude the discussions and come up with acceptable minimum wage.
