Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants then proceeded to the FirstBank branch located at the roundabout, where they fired shots and attempted to access the strong room without success. They managed to seize some cash from the counters after shooting a security guard who sought refuge in the bank’s security house.
Responding swiftly to the robbery, a joint team comprising police, soldiers, vigilantes, and hunters engaged the robbers in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the death of two of the assailants. In a show of anger and frustration, an enraged mob seized one of the bodies and set it alight.
FCT Police Commissioner CP Benneth Igweh later arrived at the scene with additional officers and confirmed the deaths of two robbers during the exchange of gunfire. He praised the combined efforts of security forces for their swift response in thwarting the attack, while also expressing condolences to the family of the slain inspector.
