Modu Sheriff: Peter Obi will run for president under PDP in 2027
A former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, will return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 poll.
The former national chairman of the PDP spoke on Monday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.
Obi, the former governor of Anambra, resigned from the PDP on May 25, 2022, ahead of the 2023 elections.
Obi left the PDP days before its presidential primary, stating that “recent developments in the party do not support constructive contributions”.
The former governor was to participate in the PDP presidential primary election scheduled for May 28, 2022, before he left the party.
On May 27, 2022, Obi joined the LP, where he became the standard-bearer and contested the 2023 presidential election.
Sheriff claimed that the former Anambra governor would pursue his presidential ambition through the PDP in 2027.
He added that Obi is only biding time before returning to his former party.
“As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down,” Sheriff said.
“The information available to me is that at any moment from now Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP.”
On July 25, Jerry Gana, a founding member of the PDP, said steps were being taken to bring Obi back into the party.
Obi came third in the 2023 presidential election under the LP.
