A devastating auto crash on Ikorodu Road, Lagos, on Sunday morning claimed the lives of a woman and her eight-month-old baby, while 10 other passengers sustained injuries, authorities confirmed.

The accident occurred just six days after another tragic crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that killed a man, his wife, and their baby.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said preliminary investigations revealed that the Tata bus lost control, crossed the median, and rammed into the Volkswagen bus.

“The impact resulted in the instantaneous death of an adult female passenger aboard the Volkswagen bus, while an eight-month-old female infant tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision,” Bakare-Oki stated, describing the incident as a “heartrending loss of such tender and innocent lives.”

LASTMA operatives, assisted by members of the public, quickly carried out a coordinated rescue operation, extricating 10 victims with varying degrees of serious injuries, including the drivers of both vehicles. Six trapped passengers were rescued from the Volkswagen bus, while four others were evacuated from the Tata bus.
