Multiple Feared Dead as Gas Tanker Explosion Rocks Ibadan Community
A late-night gas explosion in the Bioku-Alaadun community of Ibadan, situated in the Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, has left several people feared dead after a gas tanker ignited while offloading its contents at a retail filling point.
The powerful blast, which occurred on Friday, caused immediate panic in the densely populated neighbourhood as flames and thick smoke spread rapidly, trapping residents close to the scene. Early reports suggest that the victims include the gas shop owner and several others who were nearby when the explosion occurred.

Emergency responders and firefighters swiftly arrived to contain the inferno and prevent further damage to surrounding buildings.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, said operatives were actively working at the scene.
“Our men are there; they are still working. Yes, the incident happened. They were discharging gas, and there was an explosion. Information on the casualties is still being gathered,” Akinyinka stated.
Authorities say a full assessment of the casualties and property damage is underway as rescue teams continue operations.
