‘My Brother’s Keeper’: Anthony Joshua Speaks After Fatal Nigeria Road Accident

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has made his first public statement following a fatal car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, December 29, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, when an SUV carrying Joshua and three others reportedly collided with a stationary truck after suffering brake failure. Joshua sustained minor injuries, including a leg fracture, and was treated in hospital before being discharged on New Year’s Eve.

The 36-year-old boxing star returned to the United Kingdom on Saturday. On Sunday, he broke his silence with an emotional post across his social media platforms, sharing a photograph of himself standing with the families of the deceased.

He captioned the image, “My Brother’s Keeper,” a message widely interpreted as a tribute to his fallen companions and a show of solidarity with their grieving families.

The photograph shows Anthony Joshua alongside the bereaved relatives, offering comfort and support ahead of the burial of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who are scheduled to be laid to rest later on Sunday.

Joshua had travelled to Nigeria for a holiday following his recent knockout victory over Jake Paul. Reports indicate that he narrowly escaped death after switching from the front passenger seat to the back seat shortly before the crash, a move said to have been prompted by his size obstructing the driver’s visibility.

Despite the severity of the accident, Joshua was said to be in stable condition and did not require emergency surgical intervention.
