My first marriage introduced me to poverty – Iyabo Ojo
A popular actress, Iyabo Ojo, has said that the first time she tasted poverty in her life was during her marriage to her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo.
Speaking during an episode of Toke Moments, a podcast hosted by media personality, Toke Makinwa, Ojo said, “If I never went to National College, I probably would have never understood what poverty was about. In the house I grew up in at Obanikoro, Lagos Island, we had an industrial generator. I was not used to power cuts. Whenever the lights went off due to power cuts, the generator would be put on. My grandmother was one of the richest women in her time. The only time I experienced poverty was when I married my ex-husband. It was fun at first because it was like an adventure for me. I was happy because I thought it was fun until reality hit me when I became broke.”

The actress added that after their marriage ended, her children— Festus and Priscilla— did not know she had divorced their father until Priscilla was 15 years of age. She said, “I made sure they never felt it (divorce). Every Christmas, I made sure they got double gifts from me and their dad, and I did that for a long time. Whenever they asked about their dad, I told them he was a traveler, and they grew up believing that.”
Speaking about finding love again, Ojo said, “I love Paul O so much. I do not know how that happened, but it happened.”
