N1bn fraud: Court orders remand of ex-Kano commissioner for 12 days
Idris Saleh, former Kano commissioner for works and infrastructure in the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, has been remanded.
A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered his remand in custody for 12 days.
The former commissioner was on Monday arrested along with five others over N1 billion fraud.
NewsTrends learnt that the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) ordered their arrest.
The N1 billion was reportedly meant for the rehabilitation of 30 roads and drainage systems within the Kano metropolis.
The projects for which the money was allocated were reportedly not executed.
The money for the projects was reportedly withdrawn in three tranches and paid into three companies’ accounts on April 23.
In his ruling, the presiding judge granted a remand of 12 days instead of 14 days requested by the PCACC and directed that the defendant be put under good condition in the commission’s custody.
Chief Magistrate Tijjani Saleh Minjibir adjourned the matter till July 14, 2023 for ruling on the bail application.
