NAF Airstrikes Kill Scores of Terrorists Across North-East, North-West

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded major successes against terrorist groups in the North-East and North-West, following a series of coordinated airstrikes that destroyed hideouts, supply routes and assembly points, resulting in heavy terrorist casualties.

The operations were carried out by joint task forces under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation FASAN YAMMA (Sector 2) between January 1 and 3, targeting key terror corridors across both regions.

NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, describing the missions as intelligence-led precision strikes aimed at dismantling terrorist networks.

In the North-East, Ejodame said NAF aircraft conducted successive precision strikes on deeply fortified terrorist enclaves in Abirma and Chiralia within the Timbuktu Triangle, after surveillance confirmed active IED production facilities and attack-planning sites.

“The strikes resulted in the complete destruction of targeted structures, with multiple secondary explosions observed, indicating the elimination of explosive stockpiles and critical logistics,” he said.

He added that follow-up interdiction missions at Guva, in the Mandara Mountains, further destroyed terrorist storage and coordination hubs, significantly weakening their ability to regroup or launch attacks during and beyond the festive period.

Simultaneously, decisive airstrikes were executed in the North-West, particularly around Karaduwa Giginya Na in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Terrorist movements were tracked as they travelled in large motorcycle convoys before being engaged at a forested convergence point.

According to Ejodame, post-strike assessments and local intelligence confirmed the neutralisation of several terrorists, destruction of multiple motorcycles, and elimination of assorted weapons.

He said the sustained multi-theatre operations demonstrate the NAF’s overwhelming airpower, rapid strike capability, and determination to systematically dismantle terrorist networks threatening national security.

Meanwhile, the NAF also confirmed the recovery of a missing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that lost contact during a routine mission on January 2 within Operation FASAN YAMMA Sector 3.

Ejodame explained that despite efforts to re-establish communication, the UAV experienced a loss of link, prompting emergency procedures and a coordinated recovery operation involving sister security agencies.

“The platform has since been contained, with recovery and assessment ongoing. There was no loss of life, and operations across all theatres continue uninterrupted,” he said.

The NAF reassured Nigerians of its continued professionalism and operational focus, as counter-insurgency operations intensify nationwide.
