The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has debunked reports that it plans to block the Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday (today) over the continued closure of public universities as a result of strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The Third Mainland Bridge has very high vehicular traffic taking people to and from the Lagos Mainland to the Island, the commercial hub of Lagos.
NANS Vice President of External Affairs, Babatunde Afis, said no protests were planned for the day on the Third Mainland Bridge.
This is coming two days after the student union blocked access to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, in a bid to get the Federal Government to meet the demands of striking university lecturers.
The lecturers have been on strike since 14 February, complaining over inadequate infrastructure in universities, funding gaps, and their own welfare.
NANS earlier planned to protest at the Apapa Port Complex on Tuesday but shelved the plan.
