Nasarawa Gov Abdullahi Sule files notice of appeal
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has filed a notice of appeal with the Makurdi Division of the Court of Appeal challenging the nullification of his reelection by the governorship election petition tribunal.
In a recent split judgment, the governorship election petition tribunal in Lafia had declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, David Ombugadu, as the lawful winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.
Governor Sule rejected the majority judgment, describing it as unmeritorious and lacking evidential support. He has listed 27 grounds of appeal for determination by the appellate court, questioning the tribunal’s jurisdictional competence and the interpretation of relevant sections of the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
Sule has urged the Appellate Court to set aside the lower court’s decision and affirm his election victory as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The notice of appeal also names Ombugadu, the PDP, INEC, and the APC as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respondents, respectively.
