Natasha: Emmanuel Uduaghan threatens to sue Senator Nwaebonyi

Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, may soon face legal action over alleged defamatory statements made against Emmanuel Uduaghan and his wife, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Legal representatives for the couple have formally demanded a public apology from Nwaebonyi, warning that failure to comply could result in a lawsuit.

In a letter dated March 27, 2025, with reference number WIC/W/AB/W3/25, the legal team representing Chief Uduaghan, a respected high chief in Warri Kingdom, and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who serves the Kogi Central Senatorial District, accused Nwaebonyi of making damaging comments during a television interview. The statements in question were broadcast on News Central TV and syndicated across platforms such as DSTV, GOTV, Startimes, and AVO.

During the interview, Nwaebonyi allegedly suggested that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had a history of making false claims of sexual harassment and insinuated that her marriage to Chief Uduaghan was not based on mutual affection but rather on coercion.

These remarks, which rapidly gained traction on social media, have been characterized as an attempt to damage the reputation of both individuals. The law firm representing the couple highlighted the serious consequences of the senator’s comments, stating that they wrongly depicted Chief Uduaghan as a victim of blackmail and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan in a negative moral light.

The legal representatives argued that the statements have caused considerable reputational harm, leading to public embarrassment and mistrust among the couple’s political, social, and business networks.

As part of the demand, the couple’s lawyers have called for a written public apology from Nwaebonyi within 14 days, to be broadcast on News Central TV and widely shared on social media. Should the senator fail to comply, the letter warns that legal action will be taken to seek redress.
