National Social Register, a lifeline, says Sanwo-Olu, pledges stronger commitment

National Social Register, a lifeline, says Sanwo-Olu, pledges stronger commitment

In a bold move to deepen social inclusion and economic resilience, the Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to using the National Social Register (NSR) as a strategic tool to identify and uplift the most vulnerable residents across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known on Monday during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement themed: “Advancing Social Protection through the National Social Register.”

He spoke through his Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube and  commended President Bola Tinubu for repositioning the NSR as a credible platform for delivering targeted social interventions across the country.

“The register is not just a database; it is a lifeline for millions of Nigerians,” Sanwo-Olu said. “I would like to commend our great leader. Lagos is aligning with this vision by ensuring the system is strengthened, transparent, and accountable.”

He added that Lagos State had domesticated the operations of the NSR under the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, which is actively working to ensure that vulnerable residents are adequately captured and supported.

Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, Dr. Badamasi Lawal, described the NSR as the cornerstone of social protection in Nigeria.

“We cannot achieve inclusive growth if the poor and vulnerable remain unseen,” Lawal stated. “The register is not a static database but a living instrument of hope. Strong collaboration between federal and state governments, development partners, and civil society is essential to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind.”

The stakeholder meeting brought together key actors in the social protection space to evaluate the progress of the NSR and chart a course toward more inclusive and sustainable development outcomes.
