Ndidi Clears Air on Osimhen–Lookman Incident After AFCON 2025 Win
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has dismissed speculation of a rift between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, insisting their brief on-field disagreement during Monday night’s match was driven by competitiveness, not personal conflict.
Ndidi addressed the issue in an interview with ESPN following Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique at AFCON 2025, explaining that the moment reflected the high standards and winning mentality within the squad.
“It was just a competitive mindset. We wanted more, and that moment was made possible by two people who wanted more,” Ndidi said. “That was what really happened at that moment.”

The Leicester City midfielder stressed that the issue was swiftly resolved internally and that there is no tension within the Super Eagles camp.
“Everything is fine, and we have thrashed it out in the dressing room. We are in this together,” he added.
Ademola Lookman also downplayed the incident, reaffirming his respect for Osimhen and emphasizing the unity within the team.
“I don’t think that matters. Vic is our number one guy; everybody knows this. He’s a top striker,” Lookman said. “It’s just football. He is my brother.”
Nigeria, buoyed by the commanding win, will next face the winner of Algeria vs DR Congo in a semi-final qualification clash, as the Super Eagles continue their push for continental glory at AFCON 2025.
