The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described education as the best legacy to bequeath to any child in order to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor of the society.
He stated this in an address he delivered at the inauguration of a block of 18 classrooms at Akintan Junior Grammar School, Surulere.
According to him, the bedrock of any society is hinged on the provision of education as a lasting legacy to its citizenry.
The governor pointed out that education being the third pillar of his THEMES agenda would be vigorously pursued as he commenced his third year in office.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), Mr Hakeem Smith, said that the committee’s mandate was to ensure the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools in the six districts of the state.
According to him, Akintan Junior Grammar School was chosen as one of the schools captured in this programme because it met a major criterion of being in need of rehabilitation.
He was quick to add that the school met other criteria used in assessing whether rehabilitation or outright building of a new block of classrooms was imperative.
Smith said that in the not too distant future, more schools would benefit from the committee’s plan.
