NERDC Executive Secretary Prof Ismail Junaidu slumps, dies
The Executive Secretary of the National Education Research Development Council (NERDC), Prof. Ismail Junaidu, has passed away.
A source at the agency, which confirmed the news, however said that Prof. Junaidu appeared healthy and showed no signs of illness prior to his death.
A report by Daily Trust quoted the source as describing Junaidu’s death as sudden, adding that he passed away in the early hours of Thursday in Damaturu, Yobe State, where he was attending a Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE) programme.
“He did not slump; death just happened,” the official said.

Junaidu’s body has been taken to Katsina for burial later on Thursday.
Born on 3rd June 1953, Prof. Junaidu had a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Indiana, USA; a Master’s Degree from the University of York, England, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.
He was a respected professor of Linguistics, an educator, educational administrator, curriculum developer, and educational policy facilitator and designer.
