NFF dismisses claims of poor Super Eagles accommodation in Morocco
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked viral social media claims alleging that the Super Eagles were lodged in substandard accommodation ahead of their 2026 CAF World Cup playoff semifinal clash against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.
The controversy arose after a short video posted by midfielder Alex Iwobi on Monday appeared to show a rundown building, which many online users assumed was part of the team’s hotel. The footage quickly went viral, sparking criticism about the quality of facilities provided for the national team.
However, the NFF clarified that the video was misinterpreted and did not depict the players’ lodging.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said the team was staying at the Rive Hotel, a modern four-star facility approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for its standard amenities, security, and proximity to both the training ground and match venue.
“The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” Mr. Efoghe explained.
“Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium here in Rabat,” he added.
The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon in the semifinal on Thursday, with the winner advancing to meet either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the playoff final.
The eventual winner will represent Africa at the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff scheduled for March 2026 in Mexico.
