Nigeria records 25% reduction in road accidents during Sallah – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps says Nigeria recorded 25 per cent reduction in the number of road accidents during the Eid-el Kabir movements.

It said said this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the FRSC, 88 accident cases were reported during the six-day patrol period as against 118 crashes recorded in the same period last year.

The statistics were made known in a statement by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, in Abuja.

He said the crashes involved 522 people between June 26 and July 01, 2023.

He also said there was 53 per cent decrease in number of people killed, and 43 per cent reduction in number of those injured.

Specifically, he said a total of 38 people were killed, against 88 in the previous year, representing 53 percent decrease, while 211 people got injured in 2023 against 373 in the same period of 2022, representing 43 per cent decrease.

The report showed that the corps also rescued a total of 273 victims without injuries in 2023 against 347 in the same period in the year 2022.

A total of 4,116 offenders were apprehended for 4,682 offences committed across 2,053 routes covered by the corps.

The report said the reduction in road traffic crashes during the 2023 Eid-el-Kabir period was as a result of improved and rejigged patrol operations, robust public enlightenment campaign and injection of more operational vehicles, among others.

Reacting to the report of the special patrol operations, the Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, expressed his delight over the success.

He pledged that the corps would sustain the tempo and enhance its effort towards entrenching safety on all roads.
