Nigerian Army Kills 438 Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists in Seven Months

The Nigerian Army, under the military joint task force Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), says it has recorded major operational gains in the North East over the last seven months, killing 438 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, rescuing 366 civilians, and recovering hundreds of weapons and communication devices.

The Theatre Commander, OPHK, North-East Sector 1, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, disclosed this on Saturday during a Christmas Luncheon in Maiduguri, Borno State, noting that the coordinated military operations were carried out between May and December.

According to Abubakar, troops operating across the Joint Operations Area (JOA) recovered 254 assorted weapons and 300 Starlink communication devices, which he said were being used by terrorists to coordinate attacks and evade military surveillance.

He further revealed that 881 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, along with their family members, surrendered to Nigerian forces during the period under review, describing the development as a major indicator of sustained pressure on insurgent groups.

“The surrender of 881 JAS/ISWAP fighters and their families, among other accomplishments, further underscores the progress made in the theatre,” the army chief said.

Abubakar explained that the Christmas celebration coincided with the commencement of dry season operations, a phase that traditionally enables troops to intensify offensives, access difficult terrains and disrupt terrorist enclaves.

He assured the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the unwavering commitment of troops under his command to maintain the tempo of operations, stressing that recent successes were largely driven by the COAS’s strategic interventions, improved logistics, and enhanced operational coordination.

Operation Hadin Kai remains Nigeria’s flagship military campaign against Boko Haram insurgency and ISWAP terrorism in the North East, as security forces continue efforts to restore stability, protect civilians and facilitate the safe return of displaced communities.
